Chanel’s Melbourne Headquarters – office, training and entertainment spaces within an iconic historical building in Melbourne CBD.
Matthew was initially hired to aid the preparation of a planning set for what was the practice’s biggest project at the time. Working with a senior partner and architectural assistant, Matthew prepared the room elevations, schedules and edited the plans and elevations when required. When the architectural assistant left the company, Matthew assumed her role and worked directly with the senior partner. Matthew worked on the project until completion and had a wide variety of tasks including the preparation of internal and external elevations, plans and details for tender and construction packages. He also maintained the practice’s Aconex account (a web-based collaboration service) which included RFIs and document transmittals. Matthew regularly attended site meetings and inspections and liaised with structural, mechanical and fire engineers as well as the contractors and project manager. Matthew edited and provided updated schedules and construction drawings when required throughout the construction process until completion, often managing a part time student who was hired to assist on the project. Due to the unfortunate illness of the senior partner, Matthew was the main point of contact in the office and the main representative of the practice at site meetings for 2 months with the blessing of the practice owner.
